We originally found him through his home renovation stories in SOMA Magazine, which drew us to his thoughtful design approach. He reached out the same day I contacted him and even familiarized himself with the layout of our home ahead of time, drawing on his knowledge as a real estate agent.
Douglas is a great listener and puts real thought into his designs — it’s clearly not just work for him, but a passion. Our kitchen is highly functional, and we appreciate the new rear windows that bring in so much natural light. The primary bathroom feels like a calm, zen retreat, and we receive great compliments from guests.

Douglas was a fantastic person to work with. He was attentive, thoughtful, and open to our ideas; he gave great suggestions and advice on all manner of things: materials, colors, durability, sustainability, room layouts and traffic patterns, etc. He’s also a genuinely kind and funny person, easy to talk to and work out questions with. He listened to my husband, me and our 11 year old daughter equally, going out of his way to create the look she envisioned in her bedroom and bathroom (for example, going to the paint store and working with them to create a specific paint color). We’re very, very happy with the work he did and highly recommend his services.

Doug is such a great decorator, creator and designer. He has such an eye for both renovations and overall aesthetic. He really enjoys what he does and always has great ideas for even the smallest details. He designed a renovation for my kitchen to update my house before I put it on the market this past Spring. I had never considered that a powder room would work in the space, but he made me believe and he was so right! He was there for every step of the renovation and his teams were the best and most professional I’ve worked with in this industry. The new space was beyond what I ever pictured and of course I regretted not doing it when I moved in eight years ago. I loved the he found new ways to incorporate my art and decorations that made everything feel new and fresh. He is so incredibly collaborative and easy to work and really invests in his clients vision and happiness. I cannot recommend the Habitatilist Group enough.

We had a great experience working with Doug! This was our first house and we had no idea what to expect throughout the renovation process. Doug understood this and was the perfect partner to help give us a push when we needed it, or give us space to think things through a bit more. It was always an open conversation and we never felt any pressure to rush things or meet construction deadlines with the contractor.
Doug was especially helpful on the big picture decisions like what work to do first and which projects would be most likely to increase the value of the house. His knowledge of both design and the real estate market were integral in guiding us through the process from start ti finish!
Lastly, since we were also new to the area, it was great to have someone who knew the right contractors / vendors for each job. In the end, we did a gut renovation of the kitchen and basement, new paint/wallpaper and floors for the whole house, and a good amount of landscaping. Doug made us comfortable and confident we were making the right choice for each project and his design sensibility and industry expertise saved us valuable time (and money!) in the end!

We hired the Habitalist Group when we decided to embark on a top to bottom renovation of our functioning, but dated kitchen. We couldn’t have been happier with our decision. Doug and his team, including Alex, the contractor he typically works with, were so easy and great to work with.
